I rarely link back to interesting SEO articles or blog posts that I come across on a daily basis but this time I feel an exception is in order. Aaron Wall is an SEO advocate and well-known blogger with some very high quality content and forward-looking thinking. I recommend that anybody interested in SEO’s role in higher level marketing strategy start reading Aaron’s blog.
To cite one recent example that reinforces a point I preach on a daily basis, Aaron posted a guest post from Jeremy Knauff of Wildfire Marketing in Tampa, FL. The post is titled, “SEO, Evolution or Extinction” and covers a few of the emerging trends in SEO that are going to shape the short and long-term future of the industry. The bottom line is that the industry is evolving, and those that don’t adapt to the new realities are going to miss out on new opportunities, stumble over new obstacles, and fall victim to old ways of thinking that are no longer sustainable. But I love the point that he makes about the fact that most in the industry have been missing the point all along. It’s not about rankings, traffic, or conversions. It’s about creating value and a positive user experience.
Take a few minutes to read the post, or just savor the juiciest quote:
So the question remains, is search engine optimization facing evolution or extinction? Certainly not extinction, not by a long shot, but in a short period of time it is going to be drastically different than it is today. The focus will soon be on producing a valuable and enjoyable user experience rather than just achieving top ranking, which is what it should have been all along.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
