Curses to the SEOMoz team for beating me to the punch with an SEO quiz. I have been working on my own version for a couple of weeks but have had to back-burner it to finish my site redesign. I just finished the quiz and have to say it is quite thorough at 75 questions, covering everything from SEO 101 material to international search engine market share.
Any avid Search Engine Optimization specialist should understand the meaning behind each question and where to go for the correct answer. That doesn’t mean that it’s fair to look up the answer in a separate browser tab while taking the quiz. If you are truly interested in comparing yourself to others, take the quiz without using other references. See how you stack up against others, or keep your score to yourself and work on building your knowledge base for the next round. I’m sure we haven’t seen the end of SEO quizzes.
So how did I do? I completed the 75 questions in just under 20 minutes (ever since the Iowa Test of Basic Skills I’ve had a knack for standardized tests) and scored an 84% (215 out of 257 total points). That places me squarely in the “SEO Master” category. The majority of my incorrect answers were related to international search engine market share and spammy techniques, neither of which I claim expert status on.
The grading scale should be familiar to those that paid attention in school (again, I can’t claim expert status there either):
- 91% – 100% SEO Deity
- 81% – 90% SEO Master
- 71% – 80% SEO Professional
- 61% – 70% SEO Newbie
- 0% – 60% SEO Novice
I would encourage anybody that is interested in testing their SEO mettle to take the quiz, and share your score with the rest of the community. SEO is a never-ending educational process, so use this valuable tool to identify your weak spots and get to work!
