Ubiquity Will Change the Game

Google Chrome was the big news in web browsers this week, but despite its user experience enhancements, speed, and “sizzle”, I can’t help but feel that it’s just another browser that will entice a few loyal IE and Firefox users to give up even more of their privacy and browsing history to Google. It has a lot of cool features and some new tricks, but is it a game changer? Probably not. Besides, it doesn’t matter. Mozilla (the open source software folks behind Firefox and others) just upped the ante in the browser wars with their newest browser extension called Ubiquity (in alpha). Thanks to John Battelle for the subtle hints.

What really has me excited about Ubiquity is the way it will revolutionize how internet users interact with the data they need and the people they share it with. All web browsers allow people to access the same content, but this game changer takes advantage of APIs, mashups, and social media to connect people, data, and web apps like never before.
